My shopping list

Farmer's market

If you don’t eat animal products many people will assume and often make jokes that all you eat is salad. This couldn’t be further from the truth and I have found that my tastebuds are now on fire and I can really taste and appreciate all the foods I eat.

The following ingredients are what I will tend to keep stocked up on and are great for mixing and matching to create  a variety of easy meals.

  • Brown rice
  • Spelt pasta
  • Quinoa
  • Noodles
  • Lentils, beans and chickpeas
  • Oats
  • Flours – buckwheat, brown rice
  • Vegetables – my favourites are broccoli, peppers, courgette, aubergine, tomatoes, peas, onions, garlic, sweet potato, potato, mushrooms, baby corn, spring onions, carrots, spinach and kale
  • Fruit – my favourites are avocado, bananas, blueberries, lemons, limes
  • Sprouted alfalfa, lentils etc.
  • Fresh ginger
  • Sun-dried tomatoes, olives, artichokes, olive oil
  • Tofu/tempeh
  • Vegan sausages and burgers (Linda McCartney has vegan options) – great for a quick meal and for adding texture
  • Nuts – mainly pine, cashews, almonds, brazil and pecan.
  • Nut/seed butters – almond, cashew and occasionally peanut/tahini (sesame seed paste)
  • Peanut butter powder (I use PB2) – this makes nice cream/smoothies/stir fries and anything really taste GREAT
  • Seeds – sesame, sunflower, pumpkin
  • Dates, goldenberries, dried fruits
  • Coconut milk, cream, oil, yoghurt and ice cream
  • Almond milk, brown rice milk, other non dairy milks
  • Tamari (gluten free soy sauce), brown rice vinegar – the base for my stir fries.
  • Apple cider vinegar (with ‘the mother’)
  • Herbs and spices, esp. mixed herbs, ginger, cinnamon, cumin, coriander, garam masala, chilli powder, curry powder etc.
  • Vegetable bouillon powder (stock)
  • Seaweed (usually dried in snack packs or larger packs for making seaweed salad)
  • Cacao nibs, powder and butter (for my porridge and homemade chocolate)
  • Spirulina, flaxseed, chia seeds, maca powder, hemp powder, lucuma powder (I usually have a NutriBullet for breakfast so add these for a boost of nutrients) I usually buy these online to get the best price.
